First time skating

James has been invited to a skating party and has actually never skated before. He did however learn to ski at Mt Buller at age three and a half and was skiing down Bourke Street (the main drag) without assistance, turning, weaving and jumping within four days of ski school so I figured he can't be half bad at this sports stuff.

We have borrowed some skates and all the knee pads, arm wrists and elbow pads for some practise so we don't end up in the emergency room at the hospital however he managed quite well for his first attempt. He's always willing to give anything a go (except vegetables!!) but he impressed me with his efforts and had a great time.

Sienna encouraged him all the way even though she was a little jealous because she didn't have skates herself but kept occupied with a little baby gecko and the marigold flowers.

Skating brings back lots of memories for me, as all my sisters and most of the neighbourhood kids used to catch the bus to the local skate arena on a Saturday morning and skate until closing time which I think was mid-day back then. The place caught fire a number of years ago and although it was shut down it was never demolished. Even today when I drive past I think of all those Saturday mornings joining in the fast skate, the backwards skate and red-rover. We had so much fun and such fond memories. So this weekend James will experience his first time at a skate arena and I'm looking forward to him having just as much fun as I did.

Home Grown

I love reading about people growing veggies and I have wonderful relatives who are very successful at veggie growing. Recently I got my act together to grow a few of our own veggies in the backyard. We started with two 1.2 mt x 1.2 mt plots and planted two types of lettuce, capicums, tomatoes, spring onions, thai basil and some marigolds. We are still to get the carrot and corriander seeds in the ground however, it is a great sense of achievement when you can walk outside, pick your organic lettuce and put it on your sandwich for lunch. It's such a small thing but makes me very happy. My youngest, not so fussy eater was very excited to put lettuce on her sandwich and is keen to have it on her lunches for kindy.

First post (cont'd)

As I'm new to this whole blog thing I wanted to add another photo before publishing my original post however I couldn't work out to do it so am adding the picture now. This is what I was going to post of my 1st born. Also a couple more from a little photoshoot at the local bushland. There was the bribe of the McDonalds 50 cent icecream after I managed to capture some good shots. I told you they were willing participants with some encouragement. Bye for now.

First Post

Welcome to my first post for this blog. I have managed so far not to have a blog myself however I am totally inspired by reading other people's blogs who have similar interests in photography, scrapbooking, decorating and living the ordinary everyday life. It's time I caught up with the rest of the world and will be sharing my photographic adventures which are mostly of my 2 beautiful children. I am extremely fortunate that they are willing participants in my photographic obsession, for most of the time anyway.

Through reading other blogs I have picked up heaps of tips on photoshop because people share their experiences and thankfully I have advanced from where I was a year ago. It's really nice that people with common interests are willing to share with others their projects and give advice when asked. Even setting up this blog the lovely Sharon from "The Quiet Life" in North West Queensland offered me her advice and assistance if I had trouble. Thanks Sharon you are a lifesaver.

On the scrapbooking front I participated in Ali Edwards "Week in the Life" project in April which was fantastic. I was lucky enough to have 2 of my pages featured on her blog under the heading "week in the life -Part 1". When you see the picture of the anzac biscuits that's my page) I am still in the process of completing my journalling for this project but it's coming along nicely. I did my first "Week in the Life" in October 2008 way before I even knew what digital templates were so I have come along way but I still get a kick out of looking back on that book and seeing how little the kids are and what we were doing back then. If you haven't ever done anything like this check out Ali's blog.

I look forward to sharing photos of our everyday life. Welcome to my blog and thanks for stopping by. Kathy
